In Times of Crisis Stay Focused on The Realm of God.

As I write this letter, a sense of unease hangs heavy in the air. Disagreements and tensions within the nation as we draw ever closer to a contentious election, coupled with the challenges of the world around us, can leave us feeling lost and uncertain. It is during these times that we must remember the foundation of our faith: the unwavering love and grace of God, and the promise of the Kingdom of Heaven.

In the Gospel of Matthew (Chapter 6, verses 33-34), Jesus reminds us, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." These words offer solace and direction. Our primary focus, as Christians, must remain on building God's Kingdom here on Earth.

This Kingdom isn’t defined by earthly power or conformity. It is a realm of love, justice, and reconciliation. It is a place where differences are celebrated, and where God's unconditional love embraces all.

How then, do we remain anchored in hope during these times of conflict?

Turn to prayer: Let us lift our voices in prayer, not just for our own needs, but for the unity of our church and the peace of the world.

Seek understanding: Let us approach each other with compassion and a genuine desire to understand one another's perspectives.

Practice active love: The core tenet of our faith is love. Let us demonstrate this love by showing kindness, forgiveness, and respect, even in disagreement.

Focus on our common ground: As United Methodists, we are bound by a shared love for God and a desire to serve His purpose. Let us find common ground in this shared foundation.

The path ahead may seem unclear, but we are not alone. We have the teachings of Christ as our guide, the love of God as our strength, and the promise of the Kingdom of Heaven as our ultimate destination.

May God grant us wisdom, courage, and unwavering faith as we navigate these challenging times.
